What is Miles for Smiles?

Miles for Smiles started in 2006 out of concern for Head Start families who were experiencing a dental crisis.

The Miles for Smiles event raises money to help families in poverty get urgent dental treatment. If left untreated, families suffer with chronic pain, disfiguring smiles and costly emergency room visits.

What is our goal?

The goal of Miles for Smiles is to be bigger and better every year, and 2013 is no different. In 2013 we are aiming to raise over $17,000.

We are always looking for sponsors and donations from the community to help fund and make Miles for Smiles a big success.

The Walk

A fun 3 mile walk route on a paved path around Granger Meadow Park with festivities, refreshments, entertainment, and prizes. Rest stations are located nearby. The walk will take place rain or shine, so dress for the weather.

We Walk Because....

"People who are uninsured or who can't find a dentist to treat them often end up in emergency rooms where they typically receive anitbiotics, painkillers and a referral to a low-cost dental clinic.  There are sometimes long waits to be treated in dental clinics and patients may end up back in the emergency rooms before they can get in to see a dentist."

2012 Miles for Smiles 5K Walk

The 2012 Miles for Smiles 5K Walk generated a total of $14,000.  102 people participated in the 5K Walk.  Corporate & community sponsors, "Cash & Coins for Miles", and various other sources raised $10,700.  After expenses, $12,619 is available to help Head Start parents and siblings who are in desperate need of dental and don't have the resources.

A big thanks to all who helped make the 5th Annual Miles for Smiles event a huge success!  This event would not have been such a success without the generous support from our sponsors, walkers and volunteers.
